SERMON “USING OUR GIFTS FOR THE GLORY OF GOD” Dr. Christopher TO RESPOND TO GOD’S WORD . . . * AFFIRMATION OF FAITH: from the Declaration of Faith of the Presbyterian Church in the United States The early Christians recognized a diversity of abilities and functions as gifts of the Holy Spirit. Some were tempted to use these gifts to serve their own needs and ambitions, and to form elite groups who looked down on other people. But the gifts were given for the common good, to build up the community in love, and to equip it for its mission in the world. We are convinced that the Holy Spirit calls women and men to various offices in the church, and gives diverse gifts to all believers. We are to use them to speak and to embody plainly the gospel of Christ in the world, and to show forth the glory of God. Love is the gift that we should desire most of all. * HYMN OF THE DEDICATION No. 375 Toulon “Lord of All Good” THE FELLOWSHIP OF SILENT PRAYER PRAYERS OF INTERCESSION AND SUPPLICATION THE PRESENTATION OF TITHES AND OFFERINGS THE OFFERTORY * THE OFFERTORY RESPONSE Aurelia Refreshed by living waters, renewed by living bread, May we, your sons and daughters, by your own hand be led.
